Kenya clubs Tusker, Gor Mahia tumble in continental matches

Kenya clubs in continental matches Tusker and Gor Mahia suffered major setbacks in their campaigns after they suffered disappointing results.

Kenya’s Tusker Fc started their CAF Africa Champions League campaign on a poor note after they were held to a barren draw by APR from Rwanda in a balanced first leg tie staged at the Nyayo National Stadium. In Maputo, Gor Mahia suffered an embarrassing 3-0 loss  to Ferroviaro FC in the first leg encounter of the Orange Confederation cup. Gor Mahia loss came with a heavy prize to pay after  they were reduced to 10 men after industrous midfielder Collins ‘Gatuso” Okoth was send off for earning his second bookable offence. The results now place the two Kenya clubs’ in a tricky position that will force them to roll up their sleeves for the return leg clash. Tusker coach Sammy Omollo said he was satisfied with the draw considering he had several injury concerns among his key players. ”The draw to me is fair. We were playing against a good side in the region. Our midfield was good.We created three  clear chances that went begging.I believe we can score away going by our impressive away record” said Omollo. The Kenyan coach said he hoped the arrival of towering defender Joseph Shikokoti next week from Armenia where he went for trials will beef up his defence. APR coach Ernie Brandt said a barren draw was a fair result for both teams. However, he blamed the poor pitch which he said was not up to the required standard.”I’m happy with the away result. We did not concede a goal which is quite impressive.Save for the poor pitch where the ball kept on bouncing, I feel we need good preparations when we go back since Tusker is a   worthy opponent” said Brandt.
