CHAN Orange 2011/Algeria: Metref, unfortunate hero
He tried an exceptional gesture, a “Panenka”. He missed it, precipitating the defeat of Algeria. Hocine Metref is the unfortunate hero of the first semifinal of CHAN Orange 2011.
Scorer during the quarterfinals, the Algerian midfielder Hocine Metref is the unfortunate hero of the semifinal of Orange CHAN 2011. During the penalty shoot goals against Tunisia (lost 3-5), the 26-year-old player attempted a lob, best known by the term "Panenka" to trick the goalkeeper. But his shot was not powerful enough and fell in the hands of the goalkeeper Mathlouthi, already down.
The "Panenka", named after a Czech player is naturally speaking amazing but can be dangerous for the shooter who covers himself with ridicule in case of failure. Metref is then a wanted hero, he must know face disappointed fans among them Youssouf Hadji, author of a missed "Panenka" last Friday.
