40 countries to feature in Kilimanjaro marathon in Tanzania
40 countries led by Athletics powerhouse Kenya and Ethiopia are expected to line-up for the annual Kilimanjaro Marathon that will be held in Moshi,Tanzania later this month.
Top nations expected to feature in the Tanzania event include Rwanda,Kenya, Mozambique, Zambia, Uganda, and Burundi. Other countries include Malawi, Canada, France,Germany Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, South Africa ,USA, Japan, Italy, Australia ,Norway and Sweden, among other elite countries.
The inaugural race had three events; the full marathon, half marathon and a 10km run.
While Kenya and Ethiopia are expected to make a strong impact in the marathon, Tanzania will bang on Christopher Isegwe, winner of the 2004 edition who went on to win the Belgrade Marathon the same year; Andrea Silvini (2007), eventual winner of the Pune Marathon in 2008 while Banuelia Brighton (2007 female winner) won the Kigali Peace Marathon in 2009 and finished runners-up at the Kampala Marathon last year.
The organizers are expecting more than 5,000 athletes from all corners of the globe as the internationally-applauded event marks its tenth anniversary.
We are anticipating over 5,000 runners from 40 countries across six continents”, said top organizer John Addison.
The organizers of the event are working closely with Athletics Tanzania (AT) other coordinators to facilitate its success.
