London: Cheruiyot Crowned 2011 Best Sportswoman
Kenyan athlete; Vivian Cheruiyot has been crowned best sportswoman of the year 2011 as she won the Laureus award last Monday in London.
Kenyan athlete; Vivian Cheruiyot has been crowned best sportswoman of the year 2011 as she won the Laureus award last Monday in London.
This award is a fall out of her great performances registered at the world championships in Daegu where she won gold medals in the 5000 and 10.000 meters.
In the 5000 meters, she is the fastest in the world with 2mins 41.76 seconds.
The 29-year-old woman ran the 10.000 meters in 48minutes 49 seconds. She is the actual winner of the world cross country championship that took place earlier this year in Punta Umbria, Spain.
The other categories of the Laureus awards included:
Sportsman of the year, Novak Djokovic; team of the year, FC Barcelona; Breakthrough of the year, Rory McIlroy; sportsperson with disability of the year, Oscar Pistorius; action sportsperson of the year, Kelly Slater; lifetime achievement award, Bobby Charlton; sports for good award, Raaaci Souza Vieira de Oliveira and finally comeback of the year, Darren Clarke.
