Some 15 Cameroonian athletes with intellectual disabilities have been selected to take part in a qualifying tournament in Manchester, counting for the London 2012 Olympic Games. According to the president of the “Fédératiopn Camerounaise des sports pour deficients intellectuels”( FECASDI), Mr. Aléokol Jean-Marie, the main objective of the athletes who were selected last Friday is to obtain a qualification for the Summer Olympic Games in London.
Meanwhile, some officials will be trained in Douala ahead of the national championship for people with disabilities that kicks off in February. With this championship, Cameroonian athletes will be well set for the London 2012 Olympics qualifiers.
In 2011, they won 28 medals (12 gold, 6 Bronze, 10 Silver) at the Africa championship in Yaoundé. They also took part in the recent Africa Games in Maputo, but were unable to make a success.
