Kampala to host inter Cities basketball championship
Kampala will be a beehive of activities in April when the city hosts the 14th edition of the East end Central Africa Inter Cities basketball championships .
According to Kenya's Agina Wesonga who is the Inter cities executive officer, all is set for the event slated to throw off in the Ugandan capital from April 24-28. “The officials in Kampala are working round the clock for this championships.said he
The regional officials had a fruitful meeting with the Uganda federation officials and potential sponsors. "We remain highly optimistic they will come on board,” said Agina just back from Kampala.
Defending champions and last year’s hosts Nairobi (men and women) teams will seek to retain the titles. Nairobi has won the last 10 edition of the event. Other cities are expected from—Tanzania, Southern Sudan, Burundi and Rwanda. Coaches Thomas Olumbo and Emmanuel Ochieng will handle the men’s team while Ben Oluoch and Sylvia Njeri will be in charge of the women’s squad. Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) chairman Ronny Owino is optimistic Nairobi teams will dominate the event.
