Lord Kemy

Lord Kemy hip-hop/dancehall based on Montreal is an artist from Guinea (West Africa) and also the founder and leader of Leg Def (Self 'Defense) who won the 2005 Kora Award for “Best Ragga Group Africa”

He has a rich musical and diverse background, characterized by influences of reggae, dancehall and R & B. This is music with colorful touches and melodic, energetic rhythms, always captivating and sensual.

He started very young in Conakry, first as a solo rap artist in 1992, before creating the legitimate group 'Defense in 1995. He has four albums to his credit, including three that he himself produced on his LegDef Produkt Label.

The band's first album, entitled Bakouti, which was released in 1996, was a huge success and confirms his leading position in the hip-hop Guinea with sales of more than 100,000 copies. The video Bakouti was widely broadcasted on MCM Africa (French music channel reference) being ranked for several weeks as video of the week.

A true globetrotter, Lord Kemy will also be on several European stages, particularly in France (where he lived a couple of years studying law at La Sorbonne), but also in London (England), Lausanne, Bienne and Geneva (Switzerland) ... before settling in Montreal.

Excellent songwriter, Lord Kemy controls as well the melody as lyrics, at times entertaining, at times deeply thoughtful. He addresses social issues with humor and ironic tone and provides a great place to different facets of human relationships. Fortunately, he always finds a place for songs that give just envy to dance.
